Google kicks off 2nd Launchpad Accelerator program for Indonesian startups

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Google, a global giant search engine, on Thursday (March 3) launched its second batch of Launchpad Accelerator Program for Indonesian startups as part of the company’s drive to help support the creation of digital ecosystem in this country.

Google sets registration date until end March 2016 and selected participants will have the opportunity to take part in two-weeks mentoring program, all costs paid, at Google’s headquarter in Silicon Valley. The selected participants will also get prize of $50,000 at the end of the program.

“They can use the prize whatever they want. It is a free equity,” Google Developer Relations Manager Erica Hanson said at the launch of the program Thursday.

Apart from the accelerator program, Google also has two other programs provided to help create digital ecosystem in Indonesia, namely a specific curriculum that can be adopted by universities as well as free online program (Udacity). The video program will also be translated in Indonesian language.

Erica said these programs are part of Google’s commitment to train up to 100,000 mobile apps developers until 2020, which is also conveyed to President Joko Widodo during his visit to Silicon Valley recently.

At the launch, the participants of the first Launchpad Accelerator Program shared their experiences in attending the program. Most said that they learned a lot as they were mentored by the best people.

They do not only learn on how to develop the products that can be user friendly but also how to scale up the apps so their products can be used by millions of users as well as other aspects such as marketing and building a good team.

The selected participants in the first batch were eFishery from Bandung, Jojonomic (Jakarta), Kakatu from Bandung, from Jakarta, Kerjabilitas from Jogyakarta, Kurio from Jakarta, HarukaEdu from Jakarta and Seekmi.

Muhammad Nur Awaludin, CEO of Kakatu, said at the boothcamp they learned a lot about how to develop products that are users friendly, has strong value added as well as other aspects such as how to build a team, marketing their products. Therefore he encouraged Indonesian startups to grab the opportunity.

“The program is quite powerful so that encourage us now to focus on further develop our products that meet the needs of our target market,” said Nur Awaludin. (*)
