Cement sales grow by 5% in Q1, motorcycle, vehicle sales up 3.15 in March

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian consumer sector has shown sign of improvement in the first quarter 2016 as reflected by the sales of cement and picking up of sales of motorcycles.

Indonesia’s cement sales in the first quarter of 2016 reached 14.43 million tons, up 5 percent from the same period last year of 13.84 million tons. The rise appears to be driven partly by the development of government infrastructure projects, power plants and smelter projects.

The Head of Indonesia Cement Association (ASI) Widodo Santoso was quoted by Investor Daily as saying that the rise of cement sales was as expected by ASI. “We hope the sales will increase in the coming months.”

Meanwhile motorcycle sales grew by 3.1 percent in the month of March to 563,341 units from previous month, however, the accumulation sales in the first quarter reached 1.5 milion units, 6 percent lower than the same month last year of 1.6 million units.

Automotive sales grew 6.5 percent in March to 94,033 units, from 88,225 units in previous month. While compared to the same month last year, the March 2016 car sales were 5.4 percent lower than in the same month last year of 99,410 units. (*)
