JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Bandar bin Mohammed bin Hamza Asaad Al-Hajjar has picked as the new president of The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to replace former leader Ahmed Mohamad Ali. The members picked former Economist and Hajj Minister of Saudi Arabian at the 41st IDB Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Jakarta on May 19.

“I’m very hopeful and confident that Dr Bandar Hajjar will lead this institution to insya allah higher than me. He’s younger than me. He has a lot of energy and also we know him in economic and social economics. He has all the ability to lead this institution so I expect from him insya allah to move further progress and achievement in the back,” Mr Ahmed said.

Al Hajjar was born in 1953 in Madinah and took his bachelor’s in economics and politics from King Saud University in Riyadh and Master’s in economics from Indiana University in the US.

Hajjar has a degree in economics and political science from King Saud University in Riyadh. With first degree honors, a master’s degree in economics from Indiana University in the US, and a PhD in economics from Loughborough University in England.

He was undersecretary in the economics department at King Abdulaziz University between 1995 and 1998, deputy president for research in Islamic economics at the same university from 1992 to 1995, and headed the external affairs committee in the Shoura Council.

He was later appointed deputy chairman of the National Human Rights Society between 2004 and 2005, and then as president in 2005. A royal decree was issued in December 2011 to appoint him minister of Haj. He also served minister of culture and information.

Al Hajjar was born in Madinah in 1953 and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in economics and politics from King Saud University in 1976. He received a master’s degree in economics from Indiana University in 1980 then obtained a PhD in economics from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom in 1989.

Mr Al Hajjar began his career as the vice president of the Islamic Economy Center. He later became the vice dean of administration and economics faculty at King Saud University in 1982 to 1984.

He was also a lecturer at King Abudlaziz University from 1989 to 2005. He served as a member of the Shoura Council beginning in 1997.

Later he became the chair of the council’s committee on foreign affair before appointed as a deputy chairman of the National Society for Human Rights in 2004.

He was the president of the National Society for Human Rights from 2005 to October 2008 and became vice president of the Shoura Council on 25 October 2008.

In 2011, He was appointed minister of Hajj replacing Fuad bin Abdulsalam Farsi in the post.
