JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – President Joko Widodo blamed political actors who took a chance the demonstration which have been disbanded became violent and was ridden by political actors who took a chance on it. He also asks protester go back to their home.

“As a democratic country we appreciated through protest demonstrations were orderly and peaceful. Thanks to the clergy, religious teachers and religious leaders so that the demo runs peacefully.,” He said at the State Palace after held a limited meeting on Friday night.

He admitted has asked Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Wiranto and has give a promised to protester the legal process of the Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnamawill be done quickly and transparently.



“That is why I have asked protesters to return to their homes safely. Let the police sort this out,” He continued.

The coordination meeting was also attended by Secretary of State Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung, Minister for Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, the Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Teten Masduki, the TNI Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, National Police Chief Pol Gen. Tito Karnavian, head of the State Intelligence Agency Budi Gunawan and Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Pol. Syafruddin.

President Jokowi received a number of reports on the protests from a number of parties and also listen to the demands of protesters who have been delivered through the Vice President Jusuf Kalla this afternoon.

The streets of Jakarta erupted into violence on Friday night with scores of people injured as police clashed with demonstrators following a rally of about 150,000 people demanding the arrest of the city’s  governor. CNN reported that 75 people were treated in hospital, mostly related to exposure to tear gas and head injuries from thrown objects.



 

Indonesian police have used tear gas and water cannon to subdue protesters as thousands of hard-line Muslims marched against Jakarta’s governor. The demonstrators accuse him of having insulted Islam’s holy book, the Koran, and want him to be prosecuted.

Clashes broke out between police and protesters who refused to disperse. One elderly man died, the Associated Press reports, citing police. Several other people, including police officers, have been injured.

Protesters had earlier marched upon the presidential palace. Police had been braced for the possibility of religious and racial tensions erupting at the rally, which an estimated 50,000 people attended.

It had mostly been peaceful but groups of angry demonstrators clashed with police after nightfall and set vehicles alight.
